Mrs J. W. Herbert, of Napier, and formerly Waipukurau, is at present on a visit to local relatives and friends.

The marriage of Mr L. M. J. Balfour and. Lady Myrtle Jellicoe will take place on June 11. The ceremony will be performed in London at All Souls, Langham Place.

Thomas ■ Quirke (62), sawmiller, a member of the Harbour Board, dropped dead at his residence in Ormond this afternoon, states a Press Association message received this afternoon from. G'isborne.

The flag at the Hawke’s Bay County Council offices at Napier was at halfmast yesterday as a mark of respect to the late Mr Hany W. Guthrie-Smith, who died last Saturday in Scotland, and who had been a member of the council for some years.

Mr J. R: H. Cooksey, Hawke’s Bay district Commissioner of the Boy Scout movement, arrived in Waipukurau today on a special visit to the local troop a demonstration by which is to be held to-night. He is the guest of the Itev. A. C. McLean, honorary secretary to the Waipukurau Citizens’ Committee.

Mr Hugh McPhee, one of the pupils of the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club, who succeeded in passing the test for “A” pilots conducted at the Longlands. Aerodrome on Wednesday by Squadron-Leader Tsitt, leaves by’ the Marama from Wellington to-day on route to England to join th Royal Air Force.
