THE MEAT BOARD
And Ottawa Conference
FREEDOM FOR DOMINIONS
.TARIFF AGAINST FOREIGNERS.
(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day.
Mr. David Jones, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, was invited to attend the meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union executive yesterday and discuss the board's proposals in connection with the Imperial preference at Ottawa. Mr. Jones stated that apparently there was a misconception as to what were the proposals of the board. The view had been expressed that there was a danger of the suggested quota limiting the quantity of meat exported from New Zealand into the United Kingdom. Mr. Jones pointed out that this was incorrect and that the proposals that the board supported, and which had been agreed to by other Dominions, were that New Zealand and other Empire countries would have the freedom of entrance for all their supplies into Great Britain, while restriction should be placed on foreign importations.
