INTERESTING FIND
WHALE-BONES AND SEA SHELLS ON MARAKEKE FARM On Mr. F. E. Mcßobert’s farm at Marakeke, where quarrying operations for lime are in progress, interesting finds of bones, believed to be portion of a whale’s vertibrate, have recently been made.
From time to time other fossils have been found on this farm and a shark’s tooth, perfectly preserved, was: unearthed. Other fossils discovered show distinct coral growths, complete with roots. One complete shell, about nine inches long and five inches broad, was also found. The thickness of the shell is about one inch and is in perfect repair.
A hill on the farm which is about 950 feet above sea level, contains a bed of oyster shell at the top. The hill itself is practically a depost ofgolden sand and shell, with a percentage of lime with it. (
