Basketball Tourney In the Central Hawke’s Bay basketball tournament being held in Waipukurau to-day the following games have been played:—Convent 7 v. D.H. High School A. (Waipukurau) 3; Otane B. 8 y. Waipawa 2;. Waipawa (town) 5 v. Waipukurau H.S. 2; Otane B 10 v. Waipukurau (town) 4; Waipawa 5 v. Convent 2; Otane A 9 v. Onga Onga 3; Otane B 7 v. Waipukurau D.H.S. 0. Late Strawberries Paragraphs have been going the rounds in several newspapers about the exceptionally late strawberries being harvested in Auckland and Hawke’s .Bay, but the experience of an Eltham resident (says the Eltham Argus), Mr T. J. Reakes, caps the lot. Mr Reakes has for weeks past been picking very luscious strawberries of a size and flavour which would be graded “A” in strawberry circles. Only this week samples -were brought to the Argus office by Mr Reakes, who states that they are grown in the open and there are still some left in his garden. Even in Auckland strawberries at this time of the year are a rarity, so Eltham has again, distinguished itself.

Overhanging Trees —Electrical Danger.

“I desire to again stress the danger

and inconvenience to consumers, caused ~Y by trees overhanging the lines,’’ stated the Chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Powci’ Board in his annual report. “During every storm the board’s staff is called out to repair damage caused Tby trees touching the wires. Branches ■ touching the wires, especially in wet weather arc liable to burn the wires through, or else strip out the automatic switches. Repair work has to be carried out during the storm and great inconvenience is caused to consumers, besides expense to the board. I wish to make a special appeal to consumers to keep their trees trimmed so that, they will not touch the wires.”
