At the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board which, met in Waipukurau to-day one speaker created some amusement by an ‘‘lrish’ ’ reference to a phase of the Old People’s Home discussions when ho remarked: “It has to bo remembered that thereare people dying these days, sir, who have never died before!’’ Stock Exchange Activity.

The outburst of activity in the Wellington Stock and Share Market, which came on Monday, is evidenced by the fact that 17 sales were recorded yesterday, three having been made late on Monday, states the “Dominion.” This is the best day’s turnover for some weeks. The market yesterday was again very active, with a firming tendency, and a good demand in most sections. Tho standardising of charges for bulk supply of electricity which has been advocated by the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board was the subject of a letter received by the board yesterday from the Minister of Public Works, who stated that he regretted that he could not amend contracts so that a flat rate would be chargeable to supply authorities. The board decided to forward a remit to the Power Boards’ Association and instructed the committee dealing with the matter to draft a reply and submit it to the next meeting of the board.
