“Going Up”

SUCCESSFUL AMATEUR PRODUC-

TION BY PALMERSTON NORTH SOCIETY PALMERSTON N., Last night. Rivalling, if not better than, previous Palmerston North productions of the kind, the Palmerston North Amateur Theatrical Society’s presentation of the musical farce, “Going Up,” the opening performance of which was to-night, went with a swing from the opening chorus to the finale. The principals adapted themselves to their parts, and were ably supported by lesser characters, the chorus of 50 and the ballet. There was a large audience, which was treated to an evening of sparkling humour, witty dialogue, colourful frocks, and catchy sougs. Mrs. J. Hume, better known in musical circles as Miss Eva Moore, was again in charge of the production, and to her is attributable much of the success of the production and novel scenic effects. The cast is a brilliant one, and includes Miss Naomi Whalley, a vocalist of no mean ability, who was'supported to high degree by Miss Edna Boon. Another well-known singer, who was also seen in dances, which she performed creditably. Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Barstow and Messrs. Jacobs and Seeker, two airmen in the cast, were admirably suited to the parts which they played. Messrs Remmington, Eising, Davidson, Spraggon, Hooker and Alsop, handled important roles ably. The specially organised orchestra under the baton of Mr. A. J. Graham, contributed further to the evening’s enjoyment. “Going Up” will be presented on a further four nights.
