The cheapest sport in the world was claimed to be one of the attractions of Wanaka by Air J. Faulks, in speaking at a conference at Pembroke, Otago, last week. A traveller could obtain, deer stalking at Wanaka for about £5 he said, but in America he had paid £BO for a license to shoot moose, and a further £3O to take thehi out of the country. Guides had to be paid £3 a day, but in New Zealand a guide who received 15/- or £1 thought he was well treated. In South Africa he had had to pay £l5O for a shooting license. The only consolation had been the fact that the 80 “boys” whom his party had employed had to be paid only 3d a day.
