A quaint variation of tennis was staged in America after the conclusion of the Davis Cup match between America and Mexico. Johnny Van Ryn the Yankee Davis Cup representative, played Gilbert Hall, another American youngster of class. Van Ryn wielded the usual racquet, but Hall, who is a fine baseball player, used nothing but his hands, catching the ball and throwing is back. It was a ding-dong go, the bascballer coming out on top by six games to 4.
