Export of Lamb
TO ENGLAND
NORTH ISLAND GROWERS’ POOL
PROPOSED
Addressing a large meeting of sheep farmers at Te Uku recently, Mr. S. G. Lye, managing director of the Waikato and Co-operative Calf By-Product Co., spoke on the question of marketing lambs for export. He drew attention to the present unsatisfactory outlook, and strongly urged that the farmers should organise a pool for lambs and send them home on consignment. He stated the terms under which his company would be prepared to carry out such a scheme if it -were approved.
The suppliers would be required to enter into a suppliers’ agreement, w’hich would state that the Waikato and Thames Valley Co-operative Calf By-Product Co., Ltd., would have the right to make c.i.f.e., f.0.b., or sales within New Zealand. It would also set forth the number of lambs the supplier would send and the approximate time he w’ould require his lambs to be lifted. In the event of sales being made the suppliers of the lambs in that particular would
receive the whole benefit of that sale. The suppliers have to agree to have their lambs graded by the experts at the Tanners’ Freezing Works, and would have to bear any loss which may be incurred through lambs being rejected. Means of transport' would be provided, in many districts motor lorries would be used. After a considerable amount of discussion the following resolution was earned: “That this meeting adopt the scheme of marketing lambs through the Waikato and Thames Valley Co-operative Calf By-Products Co., Ltd., as laid down by Mr. Lye, and that a committee of three be set up, the chairman, Mr. McNally, to confer with the managing directors in regard to whether c.i.f.e., f.o.b. sales are to be made or not.”
