ME G. L. CHATWIN HONOURED PRESENTATION FROM FRIENDS In view of his early departure from Waipukurau, a number of personal friends of Mr G. L. Chatwin met together last night, for the purpose of saying Au Revoir to a sterling good friend and a very estimable citizen. Reference was made to the fact that during the eight and a half years, that Mr Chatwin had been in Waipukurau, he had always been to the fore to help any worthy cause, giving freely of his time and talents in a generous manner. Speakers also remarked on Mr Chatwin’s association with the Waipukurau Bowling anl Golf Clubs, Amateur Operatic Society, Orphans’ Club and kindred associations.#* It was unanimously agreed that by “Chatty’s” going a big gap would result, and one that would be difficult to fill. In order that some tangible expression of the high esteem and popular regard should be shown the departing guest, Mr Chatwin was called upon to accept a solid leather suitcase and a travelling rug of New Zealand manufacture, together with the sincere good wishes of those present that he would long be spared to enjoy good health, happiness and prosperity wherever he might be. Mr Chatwin, who was received with prolonged applause and cheers, made an appropriate response, and said that he deeply appreciated the honour that had been done him, and modestly declaimed the eulogistic reference made as to his activities and associations. He realised with sincere regret that he was leaving many good and true.friends behind him in Waipukurau, and assured those present that he would look forward with much pleasure and keen anticipation to visiting the town in the future and meeting his many friends again.
