3\Tr J. Clark Thomson was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Hawke’s "Bay Education Board on Friday,, and Mr J. R. Kirk deputy chairman. Mrs Emily Briggs, of Wairba, and Mrs. Pearson of Melbourne, are at present- visiting Takapau as the- guests of Mr J. Maudslcy. A messagci from Auckland states that Mr Alfred James Mitchell, former Superintendent of Police, died to-day, at his residence, Ponsonby, aged 74 years. For the sixth time in succession Mr T. Forsyth, M.P. has been re-elected unopposed as chairman of the Wellington Education Board. Messrs H. Butler and D. H. Rickey returned on Saturday from a very enjoyable fortnight’s holiday spent in the I Rotorua district. ; The funeral obsequies in connection i with the death of Mrs W. R. Kibblewhite took place on Saturday afternoon ! in the presence of a large concourse of mourners from all parts of the district. The Rev. Canon E. D. Rice conducted the graveside service. Many floral tributes of respect were in evidence. The election of officers of the North Island Automobile Union, at the annual meeting last week, resulted: —President, Mr A. J. Toogood (Wellington, re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs H. C. Jones (Auckland), R. S. Abraham (Palmerston North); executive, Messrs G. M. White (Auckland), N. C. C. Shepherd (Wairarapa), F. W. Manton and L. A. Edwards' (Wellington), W. Howard Booth (Wairarapa), F. J. Hill (Wanganui), V. Duff (New Plymouth), W. G. Walkley (South Taranaki), J. H. Edmunson (Napier); auditors, Henry Kembcr and Son.
