BOROUGH BRIEFS.

There are 1114 names on the District Electors’ Rojl for the Waipukurau Borough, a marked increase from 1925, when the total was 937.

Mr Harry Monteith announces that he will place his views before the electors prior to Wednesday next —election day—incidental to his candidature as a Borough Councillor;

Mr W. A. Chambers, in pursuance of his candidature for re-election to the Harbour Board, is to address the electors, in the Hatuma School, on Tuesday night.

In to-day's issue the Railway Department advertise particulars of trains and cheap fares to the Palmerston North Races which take place on Thursday and Saturday next.

The Public Works Department has advised the Power Board that current will he cut-off from the Central Hawke’s Bay area from 1 to 3.30 p.m. on Sunday, to enable necessary work to be carried out.

The “Press” will not be published on Anzac Day, but. in lieu of this issue will be published on Tuesday.

Returned soldiers arc asked to attend at the Waipukurau War Memoril on* Monday (Anzac Day) at 11 o’clock, in mufti, with decorations, for the commemorative ceremony.

Patrons of the Public Reading Room will note with appreciation the marked improvement that has just been effected in the attractiveness of the flooring. The Borough Council purchased, through a local firm, of first-class inlaid linoleum, of pleasing design, and the quality is such that it should prove a profitable investment.

To-night m the Municipal Theatre, Mr Goodger is to address the electors on Harbour Board matters, in pursuance of his candidature for the representation of Waipukurau (town and country). Mr W. G. Bryce is to preside. At the close of the meeting’ Mr municipal honours the oportunity of Goodger will afford candidates for addressing the electors.

Mr E. A. Goodger, who is a candidate for the Harbour Board points out that the harbour question has been the subject of debate for over 20 years, luring which time thousands, of pounds have been expended ~ on both the Breakwater and Inner Harbour schemes. He contends that the time has arrived for the matter at issue to he finalised. A Royal commission is to be appointed for the purpose of trying to settle the whole question and Mr Goodger announces that he will strongly support the recommendation of this tribute.
