DEER STALKING
PROVINCIAL PROPOSALS A,- to whether there should be some restriction or the season be an open one for deer stalking in Hawke’s Bay, was a subject discussed by members of the executive of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society on Friday evening. Air H. B. Tennent was of the opinion that the shooting of young slags should be restricted l>y the society placing some restriction on the number of points. "• Mr J. H. E'dinumlson: There was opposition to restriction at the last conference. Mr Tennent: In Hawke’s Bay wo have our herds in hand, and I feel that we should restrict, the number of points to eight or ten and clean down the number of hinds. It will keep our herds in better order to shoot the hinds in preference to young stags. Ve in Hawke’s Bay have coped with the door as well, as in any district. Mr Edmundson : If Air Tennent’s views wore embodied in a letter from the society to the department I feel sure they ■will let the proposal go through. The executive decided to cotninunicate with the Department of Internal Affairs, submitting the suggestions of Mr Tennent for this season’s stalking. The period of the season was decided on as from April 1 to June 15.
