HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. GENERAL BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board was held this morning when there were present: Alessie W. H. Rathbone (Chairman,) E. A. Goodgcr, F„ .I.'Witherow, 11. W. White, N. G. Hawthorne, and L. AL Alonckton. Anapology for the absence of Mr R. A. Eraser was received. TRIBCTL OF SYMPATHY Before proceeding with the ordinary business, the Chairman referred to the vacant chair on his right—never to be occupied again by Nr Paul Huntei a. very valuable, member of the Board. He had. <riven great assistance to the Board but even a greater service privately. The death of Air Hunter -would be a loss not only to the Board but to the whole district. He moved that the heartfelt sympathy of the Board be extended to Airs Hunter and family circle in their sad loss. “That this Board places on record its high appreciation of the very valuable services rendered by Mr Paul Hunter as a member of the Board,” was a minute proposed by the chairman. and being seconded by Mr Witherow. teas carried unanimously. CORRESPONDENCE INWARD. The Hawke's Bay Board wrote .forwarding an invitation to attend the opening ceremony in connection with the New Nurses’ Home. —The Chairman stated that he had acknowledged with thanks the invitation, but memders had not been able to attend. Director General of Health, confirming the appointment, of Dr J. L. Reed as Resident Medical Superintendent: — Received. Air Alonckton commented on the need for reform, as to Hospital Boards revenue being provided from ihe Consolidated Fund rather than by way of rating. inasmuch as many people well able to contribute escaped a contribution, i.e., having substantial incomes but not being ratepayers. A change in the incidence of taxation was favoured. The chairman agreed but expressed a doubt as. to the Government being capable of dealing with this big question of the method of taxation. The secretary referred to the need for meting the case of nurses transferring from one branch of Government nursing service to another losing benefits o fearlier superannuation payments. Air Alonckton moved that remits' accordingly be forwarded for consideration. The motion was seconded by Air AVitherow. It was agreed that the chairman, secretary, and 31 r Alonckton draft the remits. . Air Goodgcr said that he agreed with the principle of providing revenue from the Consolidated Fund- as with Education —but wanted a definite proposition. He did not think, hov’cver that the . Government would entertain the proposal. He suggested advocating that a larger share of the cost of hospitals administration cost be borne by the Consolidated Fund. Air Alonckton agreed, and the proposition was carried. "That all qualified members of the nursing profesion he brought under the scheme of superannuation for nurses,” was suggested as ihe second remit by the secretary. The .chairman, that the conference be asked to take up the question of the superannuation of all nurses throughout the Dominion, thus widening the scope of the superanm.. ation scheme. Air Hawthorn proposed and Air Withcrow seconded the proposal outlined, which was adopted. HOSPITAL ALTERATIONS. BOARD ’S UNDERTAKINGS. Alinister of Health has written to the Waipawa Hospital Board, consenting to the proposed capital expenditure on alterations to the Women’s Ward and tlpe kitchen b10ck,£6575. This advice was received at the meeting of the Board held this morning. The Director-General of Hospitals forwarded the amended sketch of plans of the proposed administration block, which forms part of a contract already entered into. The secretary said that the Government Arcitect had conferred with the chairman, and Messrs Kdrr and Witherow, in regard to details. Mr Goodgcr said that Mr Allen decredit for meeting the Board

in regard to the improvement of the lay-out, in regard to which lie (3lr Goodgcr) shad commented. He submitted an alternative plan to secure uniformity, and afford direct access to the offices, explaining - his proposals in detail. Air IVithercw said the amemied plan proposed by Mr Goodgcr was an un-. doub t e d iinprov e m e n t. The chairman said that the blue print on the table was the result of Air Alien’s visit and conference with the Boar*l. He agreed that the plan proposed by Air Goodgcr was a further improvement in theoriginal plan, and moved that while approving of the Departmental sketch and amended the Department take into consideration the amended interval plan drafted by Air Goodgcr, and moved accordingly. He did not anticipate -any difficulty with the contractor as he would proceed with the kitchen block firstly. Air Goodgcr seconded. Air Hawthorn said the thanks'of the Board were due to Air Goodgcr.
