AUCKLAND TEAM.

VICTORY IN WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

In the match between the Auckland touring team and a Wellington team, the visitors won on the first innings. Bright batting displays were given. On the previous day Wellington knocked up 157, and Auckland 187. In Wellington’s second venture, runs came freely. The batsmen hit out, and the score reached 252 before the last man was dismissed —Hellings 95, Lawson 40, Leys 29, Massey 28, Greig 23. Bowling for Auckland, Butler took 3 for 47, and Badeley 2 for 25. Auckland, in the second attempt, gave a good batting display, and scored 138 for the loss of five wickets—Badeley 70, Monteith 23, Butler 20. Hollings took 2 for 39, Ruddleston 2 for 38. CRICKET FIELD. SUMMARY OF TOUR. Of the six matches that the New Zealand cricket team has played in Australia, they have won three, lost one, and three have been drawn. The matches have resulted as follow':— V. Queensland. —Queensland 413 for seven wickets (declared), New Zealand 237 and 94. Queensland won by an innings and 82 runs. V. Goulburn.—New Zealand 515, Goulburn 114 and 245. New Zealand won by an innings and 156 runs. V. Wagga.—New Zealand 450 for seven wickets (declared), Wagga 162 and 235. NcNw Zealand won by an innings and 53 runs. V. Victoria.—New Zealand 314 and 231 for six wickets, Victoria 592 for seven wickets (declared). The match was drawn.

V. Ballarat. —New r Zealand 335 for six wickets (declared), Ballarat 50 and 214. New Zealand won by an innings and 71 runs.

V. South Australia. —New Zealand 339 and 192 for seven wickets. South Australia 351 and 293 for five wickets (declared). Match drawn.

Barbadoes in the. first innings made 289 for seven wickets (Challoncr 124, Austin 40). PLUNKET SHIELD. AUCKLAND, To-day. The Canterbury-Auckland Plunket Shield match began to-day in fine weather and on a good wicket. Smith won the toss, and decided to bat first. Horspool and Mills opened, both batting carefully, taking few risks. Mills’ first two strokes were boundaries, but the majority of the runs came from singles, at the rate of a run per minute. With 44 on the board, Horspool was clean bowled by Read. Snedden followed in. OLD BOYS’ MATCH.
