WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR. REVIEW OF WORK. “I have much, pleasure in submitting to you the Annual Report and Statement of Accounts for the year ending March 31st, 1925,” states the annual report of the chairman (Mr J. Winlove). “During the year 12 committee meetings were held, and 78 applications were considered, of which 43 were from local men, and 5 from dependants: 22 applications were from men the responsibility of other Societies, 2 from ex-Im-perial men, 3 applications were declined, and 3, whose applications were declined by the responsible Society, were .assisted by this Association.

“The balance sheet for the year shows that £382 4s 6d was paid to soldiers, in grants, and £95 to dependants, while £ 330 was advanced in loans; £353 6s 6d was disbursed on behalf of other Societies to assist their men residing or travelling in this district, of which £3ll Ils 6d has been refunded.

“During the year £555 2s lOd was refunded by soldiers on account of advances made to them, but many are still unable to men their liabilities in this respect, and in such cases extensions and renewal are granted, and -where considered necessary the amounts are partly or wholly written off.

) “Your committee wish to cordially thank the Returned Soldiers’ Association for their assistance in keeping us in touch with men in need of help, also to express our appreciation of the careful attention given by othei Societies to the applications of men for whom we are responsible. “Notwithstanding, the assistance already granted by this Association, we think there are still disabled men belonging to this dis trict who are entitled to and need some help, and we urgo those men, or their dependants to apply to this Branch for assistance.

“We note with satisfaction that the type of applicant who exploited the Patriotic Associations, and was much in evidence in the early stages of the War Relief Societies activities has, owing to the means adopted to check them, almost disappeared, and it is only occasionally that we now get this class of applicant. ”
