Master Basham, son of Mr. J’. Basham, had a narrow escape from a serious accident at the Post Office corner yesterday morning. Ho was cycling down ForaDgahau road and (he Sanatorium van cuve from fiown the main street, slowing up at tho corner. A crash was eertaia, but the driver, Mr. Hodgkinson, pul on tho tho accelerator and the cycle struck the rear part of tho van. Yonng Basham was shot against the canvas cover of tho van, missing an iron -rod by an inch or so. Ho was cut about the face, but otherwise escaped injury.

Not all the Bolsheviks are in Russia, according to the Mayor of Christchurch (Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, M.P.) This contention was borne out by Dr. Thacker telling of an incident which actually occurred in Christchurch recently, A curtain woman had been Confined to her bod at the birth of her child. A sympathetic neighbour had gent over a few- eggs, but the woman’s husband, who was out of work for •about three months, took those eggs for himself. When remonstrated with, the man merely said, “She’s in bed, I need them more than . she does.” That, contended Dr. Thncker, was as bad as the worst Bolshevik in Russia. Christchurch had “animals” like that •in its own midst.
