The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department advises as follows: — The Postmaster-General announces that the following alterations of postage and telegraph charges, will conic into force on August 1:— Letters and Lettercards. Inland from. 14 for 4oz to 2d for 2ox. Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and certain other coufc. tries, from lid to 2d. Postcards. Inland from Id to ltd. Late Fee. From Id to 2d. • Packets. Comprising commercial papers, books, and printed papers, patterns and simple packets, and unregistered magizincs:— Inland from Id for the first 2oz, and Id for each additional 2oz to ltd for each 4oz up to lib. Registered Magizincs. Inland, Australia, Fiji, and certain islands in the I’acific; New rates 2d for each copy if not exceeding Soz, and 2d for each additional Soz or fraction there of. Newspapers. Inland, from Id to I'd. . Fee for Registration. From 2d to 3d, Inland Parcels. From ltd to fid for the first pound. Insurance of Parcels. Inland, 2d to 3d up to £2. Private Letter Boxes. From £1 to £1 10s per annum. Private Mail Bags. From £2 to £2 10s per annum. Aloney Orders. New By post payable in New Zealand,-Id each £l, with a minimum of >’>d: payable beyond New Zealand (except in Australia, the United States of America or Canada), 6d each £.l; payuble in the United States of America and Canada, 5d each: 2s by telegraph, payable in New Zealand, the same as by post plus telegraph fee, Is 6d, if sent by ordinary telegram, or 3s if sent by urgent telegram; payable in the United Kingdom, the same as by post, plus cabling fee; domestic orders 9d each including delivery fee. Registration of Code Addresses. ' Increase from 10s to £1 per annum. The amendment of the charges for telephone buicau communications and for telephone exchange connections will be announced later. The following announcement has been received through the (Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department from the I'ostmaster-Gcneral:— From August I proximo each telephone exchange subscriber in the Dominion is to pay an additional £1 per annum per connection, and there is imposed an increase of 5s per quarter-milc for lines extending beyond the present maximum distance for which the initial rate is charged. The increase docs not. apply to current subscriptions due before August I prox. Also the scale of charges for toll communications is raised as follows:—Up to 20 miles fid for the first three minutes, and. 2d for e:ttw additional minute or fraction thereof; up to 50 miles, 9d and 3d; 75, Is and 4d; 100, Is fid and fid: 150, 2s 3d and 96; 200, 3s and Is; 256, 3s 9d an dis 3a,• 300, -is fid and Is fid; 350, 5s 3d and Is 9d; 400, 6s and 2s; 150, 6s 9d and 2s 3d; 500, 7s fid and 2s fid. For communications from subscribers speaking from their own telephone, half these rates up to ten miles only.
