We experienced strong enquiry for all classes of stock and quitted practically everything yarded. Quotations: —2 and 4-th ewes, small 11s 9d to 12s 9d, f m. ewes 8s 9d to 11s, aged ewes 5s to 7s, 2 and 4-th wethers, small 10s, shorn rams 4s 3d to 6s, woolly lambs 6s 6d to Bs. Forward bullocks £5 6s, 2 to 3-year steers £B los to £i 6s 6d, 2yr steers £3 10s, 18mos steers £2 15s 6d £2 18s 6d, springing heifers £3 15s to £4, 2yr heifers in calf £3 to £8 9s, 15 to 18mos heifers in calf £2 7s 6d to £2 16s 6d, empty forward heifers £3 2s 6d, empty forward cows £2 17s to £3 Bs, bulls £3 to £3 15s.

'President Taft’s message to the Congress advocates the conservation of natural resoums and asks for the withdrawal of public lands from private settlement when they contain forests, coal, minerals or phosphates, or border on water. He suggests that the Government retain the title to coal and mineral deposits under agricultural land. The public domain now consists of 1099 million acres including Alaskan lands. He appeals for 30 million dollars for completing irrigation projects already begun, the money to be raisable on ten years’ bonds upon the reclamation fund, and suggests that 60 million be spent in deepening inland waterways.
