The Examiner. Published MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, MAY 30.

Tomorrow evening the-members of the Woodville A. and a P. Association will be final called upon to perform wokd. two important duties.-

The first of these is to deal with Mr Bolton’s notice of motion, that the Association consider the advisability of holding the show in alternate years at Woodville and Pahiatua. We know that Mr Bolton’s idea is only to have the matter fully discussed, and if it can be shewn that any advantage is td be, gained by the adoption of such a scheme he will support it. So will we, for that matter, but we will take a power of convincing. Our present impression is that the proposal is the most iniquitous one that has ever come before the members of the Association. We are satisfied, however, that Mr Bolton’s idea is solely to have the matter settled once and for all. In a former article we suggested that Mr Bolton might go out with the tide. We take that back, having heard Mr Bolton’s explanation. We hope that the members of the Association will realise how much Mr Bolton has done for them, and will return him as their President, He has the interests of the Association at heart, and can bo relied upon to do his utmost at all times to do bis beat for, i it. The second considei ation for to-morrow evening’s meeting is the appointment of a Committee. It is gratifying to note that the nominations exceed the vacancies by nearly 2 to 1. It is by no means gratifying, however, to find that Mr R. E. Beattie is again asserting himself as a selector of Committeemen. In,shis connection it might be noted that Mr Beattie seeks election as a Vice-President. We undersand that the rule of the Association regarding the number of vice-presidents has been altered, and. that Mr Beattie will be able to crawl in, through there being no election. This is rather a pity, as every member of the Association is aware of the miserable manner in which Mr Beattie crawled out of the Association on a former occasion. However, we suppose that for twelve months the Association must put up with the indignity of having as one of its vice-presidents a man who has done bis level best to throttle it. We write feelingly, because we know too well what has awakened Mr Beattie’s interest in the Association so suddenly. On an occasion when the gentlemen was on speaking terms with The Examiner, he told a member of its staff that be had a letter in his pocket stating that if only a certain motion were passed that the Woodville Association would be killed and would be resuscitated in Pahiatua. Mr Beattie was anxious to see that happen, and for that reason should not be trusted to interfere in the Association’s affairs again. The cloven hoof of the gentleman is apparent in the nominations for the Committee, and members would do well to consider whom they vote for. One aim ;in Mr Beattie’s life at present is to make the editor and staff of The Examiner smell the odour of the sulphurous regions, and with this end in view he seeks to force on to the members of the A. and P. Association such a committee that will take away from this office all printing and advertising. We know the members too well to think that they will assist him towards the accomplishment of his desires. Still, we warn them to be careful of this Judas Iscariot. Let them appoint a committee out of the following gentlemen i —Messrs Bunny, Ruddick, Horne, Grieves, Stace, Anderson, Fletcher, Palloon, Miller, and Monteith.
