Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report:—At our Dannevirke sale on Friday we offered 1000 sheep and 700 cattle to a good attendance of buyers. Sheep of all classes were in demand, and our entry was disposed of" at prices, in most oases, in venders' favour. We had a limited enquiry for cattle, which absorbed all the'smaller lots at full values. Several large lines met with little competition and were passed in. We quote: ~ —Fat wethers, 17s Id; forward . wethers, 16s 8d ; fat ewes, 14s Id to 148 4d; 2-th to f.m. ewes in lamb, 15s ; empty ewes (culls), 7s 7d to 6s 9d ; lambs 10s ; and springing cows, £6 5s ; fat do £4 5s ; store cows £1 to £1 2s 6d ; forward do £2 7s 6d; 15mos cattle, £l, £1 2s 6d to £llos ; 2yr steers, £2 10s; 2| and 3yr steers £3 Is 6d to £8 12s ; 2 and 2£yr hei6d, 9s 6d, 10s, to 15s 6d. Messrs Williams & Kettle, Ltd.. held their usual fortnightly sale on Friday, at their Danuevirke yards, when they offered a large yardiug of cattle and a limited number of sheep to a representative gathering of tie public. Sheep Rold well under the bummer, but for cattle there was absolutely no sale at all. Some very ' fine young bullocks were offered, and in most cases the public was silent as far as bidding was concerned. We quote as follows: —Empty ewes, 7s lid to 9s 6d, fat ewes 14s 6d, mixed lambs 10s. Fat cows £3 to £4, fat bullocks (light) £4 Is, 2yr-old steers £2 14s, 2|yr-old do, £3. LONDON PKODUCE MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Industries and Commerce Department has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, May 26fch ; The mutton market is weak, the Competition amongst holders to clear their stocks having lowered values.

The average price for Canterbury mutton to-day is Bfdp; r lb for light weights, and per lb for heavy weights. The average price for best quality North Island mutton is B|ff, and second-class quality is quoted at BJd per lb. The lamb market is steady, and there is a general and active demand. There are signs of improvement in the market. The average price of Canterbury lamb is 4fd, and other than Canterbury brands 4sd, per lb.

There is a better dem md for beef. Supplies of Eiv< r Plate beef are heavy. The average price of New Zealand beef is 3£d and 2-d per lb for hind and forequarters respeoiivtly. The butter market isfi’mowing to reduced supplies. There is a good demand for all descriptions. The homo season has not begun well. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter is 101 a per owt. Danish is quoted at 109 s, and Siberian at 96s per cwt.

The cheese market is firm. Coloured supplies are increasing rapidly. Canada is sending the bulk of her new season’s make, as coloured affects the market. New Zealand coloured cheese is quoted at 625, and white at 68s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet and steady, and there is no change in price to report. A few inquiries are being made by speculative buyers for cocksfoot seed, but there is no pressure to sell. To push sales, lower prices will have to be accepted. The average price of bright clean seed, 171 b to the bushel, is 47s per owt, for new crop. JOHNSONVILLB MARKET. Johnson vx ole, May 29. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonyiile sale as follows :—A good yarding of bullocks, including some heavy weights, made up to 21s 6d per 1001 b; best bullocks £9, others £7, £7 7s 6d to £8 ss. A fair yarding of sheep made up to last week’s rates. Wethers 19s sd, heavy ewes made up to 18s lOd, others 17s to 17s 3d, store ewes 14s.
