Correspondence.

[Correspondence is invited upon subjects of general interest, but we do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by the writers]. THE ROAD TO TIRAUMEA. (to the editor). Sir, —I, in common with other Tiraumea settlers who have occasion to use the County road underneath the Ngawapurua bridge and up the bank of the Manawatu river, would be glad if you could inform me by what authority the Government have out a gully and laid a tram line across it, thus rendering it dangerous for horse and vehicular traffic. Has the Woodville County Council granted permission for this to be done? —I am, etc., S. Bouton. A DISHONEST PROPOSAL. (to the editor). Sir, —The proposal to hold alternate annual agricultural shows in Woodville and Pahiatua respectively is one that cannot be defended by any fair-minded man. I cannot help congratulating you upon your uncompromising attitude thereto. The Woodville people have at considerable expenses and annual labour built up ap annual exhibition that is now looked upon by all parts of the colony as an absolute fixture, and also considered an exceptionally praiseworly show. The town of Woodville occupies an eminently suitable position geographically as the railway junction—an unanswerable advantage. Sir, knowing something of the Pahiatua town and district, I feel safe in saying that the great bulk of the residents do not wish to rob Woodville of its annual show. This idea of alternate shows is simply an idea that has gripped the minds of one or two men only, and they presume to speak as the mouthpiece of nine-ten ibe of their fellow residents. If the Pahiatua people desire to have an agricultural show they are prepared to put their hands in their pocket and pay for its establishment. Tne proposal to rob Woodville (or any other town for that matter) of its annual show, is not only brutally unjust, but, in my opinion, is positively dishonest. It is not often we agree, Sir, but in this matter your duty is plain, and I compliment you upon your whole-souled opposition to such an iniquitous proposal.—l am, etc., W. H. Hawkins.
