Floyd MacFarland, the wellknown American racing crack, was to leave Sydney last week for San Francisco. MacFarland was to be accompanied by A J. Clark and E. Pye, two Australian riders. Both Clark and Pye Bhonld profit by their trip, and will probably show to advantage in handicap racing under the wiDg of the American crack. Interviewed after his return to England from his recent racing trip to Florida Beaob (Ormond-Day tona), Clifford Earp, who won the 100 miles championship on a 90 hp. Napier car, stated that, although extraordinary speeds were obtained on the wet sand at Florida Beach he was of the opinion that bard macadam road is at least five miles per hour faster than the wet sand track. Earp also expressed the opinion that he believed that bard wood tyres could be used to advantage on the beach at Ormond-Daytona, as there *vnq practically no vibration travelliLy along the hard smooth sand.
