THE STOCK MARKET

Abraham and Williams report as follows:—At Palmerston on Thursday we had a good muster of sheep consisting chiefly of healthy lines of • lambs. For these there was a fair - demand, but in several instances I vendors expected outside value and f several pens were turned out unsold, i Wethers and empty ewes sold freely, i Cattle consisted cniefly cf female stock in low condition which sold at ■ current rater. A few reliable dairy cows made fair prices. Holders of fat stock would now realise good prices for a limited number each week. Quotations: Fat sheep (light) 16s 6d, empty ewes 13s to 33s 9d, aged ewes in lamb 18s, cull ewes 4s to Bs, 2-th wethers 15s 8d to 16s 4d, good lambs 9s 9d to 11s Bd, small lambs 7s 6d to 8s 6d, reliable dairy cows £6 to £6 10s, store cows 263 to £2 ss, fat and forward cows £8 7s 6j to £8 Bs, 18mos heifers 255, yearling heifers 20s, heifers in calf £2 15s to £8 11s. * DANNEVIRKE STOCK SALES. ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS. Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report as follows ; Stock cime forward on Friday in excess of advertised numbers, and there was a large attendance of buyers. Sheep,—We yarded 2300. All lines were freely competed for and disposed of under the hammer at full values. Only one line was passed in. The quality on the average was poor, cully sorts being largely iu evidence, hence the low quotations. Cattle.—On the contrary, cattle were, with one or two exceptions, of good quality throughout and also of a saleable class. This probably accounted, to an extent, for the brisk competition which characterised the sale, every lot, bar an odd beast or two, changing hands. We quote us follows Sheep.—Forward empty ewes lls to 18s 9d, store wethers 11s 6d, forward lambs 10s, small diito 6s to 7s Bd, ewes in lamb, old and poor, 5s to 8a 9d. Cattle. —Three and 4yr forward bullocks £4 12s to £6 Bs, 2|yr do £2 17s to £8 10s, fat cows £4 2s to £4 10s; 15 to 18mos heifers 20s to 255, do steers 25s to 38s; 2£ to Syr heifers in calf £2 to £2 10s, weaners 10s to 18s, yearlings 20s. WILLIAMS AND KETTLE. 1 Messrs Williams and Kettle re- < port as follows : There was a large attendance of I buyers at our usual fortnightly sale on Friday, when we offered a large entry of sheep and cattle, which met with keen competition. The sheep were mostly of poor quality, but anything like sound mouth ewes sold readily. The cattle comprised some very fine B£yr bullocks, which brought good prices under the hammer in proportion to the - prices realised lately, one line of 70 j from Weber averaging £5. WELLINGTON WOOL AND SHEEP SALE. Levin and 00., Ltd., reportWe offered on Friday 30 bales wool, 2000 skins, 200 bides, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool was keenly competed for, and the advance in London was reflected at the sales lere. Crutchings are now coming forward and are meeting with strong demand at advancing prices. We quote Coarse crossbred 9Jd to lOfd, inferior and logstained Bsd to 9£d; pieces and bellies 7d to 7£d; locks 8d to 5d ; good lambs’ wool lOd to lid, medium 9d to 9|d, seedy 6Jd to Bfd ; crutohings, extra superior, up to 9d, good 7d to Bd, seedy and inferior s£d to 6fd. Bkins.--There is no change to record. We quote :—Merinos 9d to 9|d; fine crossbreds 9d to lOd; coarse 9d to 9fd; dead skins, 8d to B|d; short wools, B|d to 9£d; woolly ekius, green, 6s 6d To 7s 2d ; woolly lambs’ skins, green, 5s 5d to 6s 4d ; lambs’ pelts 8s to Ss lOd. Tallow.—Casks 21a Bd, tins 18a, sacks 18s 9d.

Horsehair, Is 6d to 2s per lb. Horns, 8s to 18s per 100. Hides have fallen further in Australia, and there are unfavouasfole reports of the future. Prices here have fallen further. We now quote:—Ox hides 5d to s|d, cut and slippy hides 8d to 4|d, calfskins 5d to s|d. THE WOOL SALES. London, May 10. The wool sales are brisk, everything selling at fall prices, with an upward tendency. Prices for stylish classes suitable for American trade are unchanged from prices ruling at the Match sales; everything else 5 to 7Ad per centum advance. The fleece portion of the Redoastle clip sold at from 18gd to 13|d, Auckland 14d.
