HAWKINS AND COMPANY’S WEEKLY REPORT,

Messrs Hawkins and Company report on Saturday’s sale as follows: Pigs, weauers, 5s 6d; small stores, 11s 6d to 16s 6d; full-grown, 31s; horses, half-draught, £24 10s; hacks, £9 10s; fowls, Is 2d to 2s; ducks, 2s; geese, 3s 9d each. Fruit; Tomatoes, 3s; apples (eating), cooking, 2d. Parra produce was offered, and all cleared at fair prices. The usual line of prime meat was offered and buyers were enabled to secure good value for their money. A miscellaneous lot was also offered and cleared at slaughter prices.

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Wellington, May 7. The Industries and Commerce Department has‘receivcd the following Cable from the High Commi-sioner, dated London, sth May:—There is dull sale of all qualities of mutton. A big supply is increasing the inclination to force sales, which makes the market weaker. South brands to-day are 4£d for light and Bfd for heavy weights. North Island brands are selling at B|d for best quality, and Bsd for second quality. The lamb market is weak, stocks being distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. Low prices are quoted, and an increasing output. The average prices are 4£d and 4£d for Canterbury and other than Canterbury brands respectively. The beef market is quiet with no Change in prices. The butter market is quiet, but firm. There is a fair demand for better grades. Supplies are increas-

ing from Ireland and Siberia. The average price for choice New Zealand butter to-day is 101 s per cwt ; Australian 965; Argentine 90s; Danish 105 s; Liberia 965. The cheese market is a shade weaker. White makes are realising 60s per cwt. Theie is a email supply of coloured on hand which is quoted at 65s per cwt.

There is no change in the prices in the hemp market, which is quiet. Spot lots are in better demand for district deliveries. The wool market is firm with more enquiry. Current quotations for Bradford tops are 86a; low crossbreds Is sfd (40’s); low crossbreds Is 6|d (44’s); low crossbreds Is B£d (50's); halfbreds Is lid (56’s); quarterbreds 2s Ud (60’s); merinos 2s 4|d. LONDON MARKETS. London, May 6. Wool.—The Antwerp sales have closed. There was increased competition especially for fine crossbreds, which showed a 20 centimes advance on the March sales. Seven thousand and twenty bales of La Plata wool were off red and 4724 sold; 677 bales of Australian were offered, and 241 sold. Mutton.—North Island, B|d; best brands, B|d. Lamb. —North Island, 4 8-7 d. Beef.—New Zealand fores, 2£d. All other meats are unchanged. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. Johnsonville, May 8. Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd, report on their Johnsonville sale as follows : —A fair yarding of bu locks of medium quality made up to 21s 6d per lOOlbs; best bullocks £8 10s, £8 sa. £8 2s 6d, others £7 to £7 15s. A good yarding of sheep, including some extra prime ewes, met with good competition, and extra prime heavy ewes fetched 20s; others 16s 9d to 18s sd, lighter ewes 18s fid to 16s lOd, wethers 17s 6d to 17s 7d.
