CHINESE LABOR.

Capetown, May 8.

The commercial community at Johannesburg has protested against the State-aided repatriation of coolies as proposed by the British Government. They declared it would cause non-employment of many skilled whites, and would dislocate business, and ruin numbers of commercial people. Owing to the p r ej vailing uncertainty the mines hod already lost fifty per cent, of the labour supply, and there were fifty per cent more bankruptcies in March than in the preceding fifteen months. They advise that the whole labour question be left to the new Legislature without interference.
