SOUTHERN MARKETS. ADDINGTON. Fat cattle. —Steers £6 to £l2, heifers (light weights) £5 7s 6d to £7 18s, fat cows £5 10s to £7 1' s. Per 1001 b secondary to prime beef realised 20s to 24s 6d. Fat sheep.— Wethers were scarce, and sold at an advance to 6d, mostly going for export, although butchers competed actively. Ewes were in large supply, afnr .'tinning at last week’s lates, 'v: om! considerably, and practically «"* saleable ever at » concession if Is 6d on previous week’s prices. Fat lambs. — The entiy included some very piime quality. Store sheep and lambs. —Wethers —538 at 13s lid, 443 at 12s 7d, 98 at 11s BJ, 90 at 11s 6d. Ewes—939 at 13s Bd, 1043 at 13s 4d, 123 at 11s 9d, 143 at 11s Bd, 70 at Us, There were several other lines of good wethers, and some good lots of I>,mh- but most of the ewes were fall-mouthed or older.

Pigs—A good entry in point of Dumber, but consisting chiefly of

porkers brought about last week’s rates, but small stores were much lower. Choppers met an exceptional demand, and were quite 10s dearer. Choppers made 55s to 655, baconers 45s to 665, porkers SOs to 37s 6d, stores 14s to 28s 6d, small do 6s to 10s.

GRAIN REPORT.

Mr F. Fownall, of the N.Z. & Canterbury Farmers’ Co-Op. Asstns. Wellington, reports as follows, all quotations being f.o.b, port of shipment, saoks extra, unless specified :

Oats.—Outside enquiries are listless, though cheap freights are being sought after, w ; th view tj encouraging trade with Japan, now eventuating in Australia. Local trade is brisk for winter stocks, B grade Danish ruling at Is 94d, Cartons and Tartars Is 10|d, Roseberrys Is lid, S-Bills Is 11-g-d, Canadians 2si Duns scarce at 2s. Rejects Is Bd.

Wheat. —Business is more definite, with holders accepting current values, best velvet realising 3s fid. Probable easier transit charges Home will give an impetus to exports and relieve stores. Smutty and discoloured grain is finding quittance for feed at 3s Id to 3s 2d, seconds 2s 9d. Potatoes. Supplies of early keepers are restricted by shortage of labor bagging, Derwents being worth 62s fid b.i. Kidneys 2s fid b.i.

Maize. Weather hindrance in deliveries keeps quotation steady at 2s lid s.i.

Barley.—Malting has small request at 3a Bd, feed 2s Bd. Pearl barlev £l3 10s b.i.

Beans. —Hard crushers are showing freely at 3s 7d, with fair turnover.

Peas.— Partridge are dull at 4s 3d, Blue Prussians ss, wrinkled scarce at 6s fid. Split peas £l3 10s b.i. Pig-meal £5 s.i. Bran.- -Value stationary at £3 s.i., which congesting stocks should weaken. Pollard. Sales are brisk n t £5 os s.i., small output acceleratin > Oatmeal.— Mills still quote £lO 5s s.i. for 25 s. Rolled oa.'s (sub. con.) £l2 s.i* Chaff.—Ready absorption ofavailable crops keeps coat at 35s s.i. Straw chaff nominal 50s s.i.

Hay.—Pressed straw is moving quietly at 455, all-clover 955, ryeclover 62s 6d. Grass seed.—Dressed cocksfoot is changing hands at 4j to s|-d, ryegrass 3s Gd to 4s fid, cowgrass 67s 6d, alsyke 82s 6d, white clover 955.
