A Scene in Parliament
“PLUGGER” NORTON SUSPENDED,
Sydney, June 26.
The censure debate was marked by a disgraceful scene. After a wordy warfare between Messrs Norton and Broughton, wherein some choice epithets were employed, Norton suddenly crossed the floor and struck Broughton several blows in the face with his fist knocking him from his seat amidst great excitement. Norton was seized, and prevented doing further damage. The House then adjudged Norton guilty of contempt, and suspended him for the remainder of the sitting. Broughton apologised but the House refused the apology. The motion to suspend him fell through.
