"WING FORWARD" AND THE PAHIATUA MATCH.

[to the editor.] Bir,—Although " Wing-forward " has closed the correspondence on his part I cannot let the matter drop without a word of comment regarding the tone of his last letter. I can only say he has descended to an unmanly and ungentlemanly tirade against myself, instead of keeping exclusively to the original subject, and has evidently taken this course as a loop-hole to wriggle out of his questionable criticism. It is all very well for " Wing-forward " to make a direct attack on me and then to close the correspondence. Such a proceeding only tends to prove to the public that there is an evident flaw in his argument. It is rather amusing when, after accusing me of " bluster," he replies in the blustering and autocratic tone in which he does. " Wing-forward's " remarks that the decisions were adversely criticised by the Woodvilie players was the cause of my taking the matter up, and I think that the following declaration sigued by the members of the team goes to prove that my contention was correct.—l am, &c, Wm. Thomson, Oapt. W.F.C. Woodvilie, August 80, 1901. We the undersigned hereby state that Mr Hawke's decisions were not adversely criticised by us :—W. H. Madill, W. J. Palmer, J. W. Peebles, Hilton Eead, B. Walker, G. Robinson, J. McGuirk, H. Jones, H. Cox, A. Rosenberg, A. E. Collins, J. Fairley.
