"OTHERWISE SURREY."

(to the editor.) Sm,—As Mr Scott has mentioned ray name in his disconnected drivel in a way which may lead the noncricketing public to think that there is something wrong, I think he deserves a reply. Those that know him do not take any notice of what he does ; but it strikes me that he is trying to make mischief. Why Mr Scott should expect to be put on to bowl is unaccountable. He bowled in a scratch match this season, and our second eleven men knocked him about to such an extent that he was the laughing stock of everybody present. Of course he was captain of the side. Nobody else would have put him on to bowl. He has no bowling record to show, although he is always gassing about what he has done. He has been a failure in every position in cricket. He started out to keep wickets this season, and cost more runs than he saved. It hurt his poor fingers, and he couldn't bat in consequence. He knocked off trying to keep wickets, and he still couldn't bat, his average this season being about runs for each innings. He was supposed to field at point on Saturday last, and it is quite unnecessary for me to refer to the exhibition he made of himself. His performance was inferior to that of the smallest schoolboy in the school team. He made the excuse that he was too ill to be on the ground, and yet, forsooth, he complained of not being put on to bowl, which is the hardest work in the field. The match was easily won and without a full team, myself and others being asked to play as substitutes, and when I play I do what lam asked to do in an agreeable manner. Galloway has bowled in every first eleven match this season, and his performances have justified his position or he would not be there. In conclusion, if Mr. Scott will come into his proper position, that is in the second eleven, when we can compare our averages to the best advantage, I will back mine against his at the end of the season for £5, the winner to hand the amount over to the Woodville Brass Band Fund I am, &0., W. Loader.
