Mr Carr, porter at the Woodville Railway Station, has been promoted to Napier. The Awarua Block is to be opened for settlement on September 18th. Mr G. H. Kemper, the well-known Mangatainoka settler, intends removing to Auckland. Mr John O’Meara has received instructions from Mr Welsh, Maharahara, to sell on September sth, at 1 o’clock, two farms and the whole of his dairy stock. Mr Munro, who has had charge of Mr Sidey’s Makotuku farm for some time, is removing to Maharahara, and will reside on his farm there. At the County Conference, a motion by Mr Von Reden, that County Councils should have power to levy a general rate not exceeding $d in the £ for the purpose of creating a fund for the restoration of bridges on County roads was agreed to. Mr Dickin was elected a member of the executive committee, representing Pohangina. By the wreck of the Ca'tterthun, which went on the Seal Rocks off Sydney, in much the same way as the Wairarapa w»s on the Barrier, two Mrs and Miss Loring, who recently visited this district, were drowned. Mrs Loring had a son as cadet with Mr B. G. M. Harrison, of Makuri. He is now on a station in the Ashurst district. Mrs and Miss Loring came to see him, and were on their way Home when the steamer in ffVifnh they sailed was wrecked.
