THE NEW CABINET.
London, June 25. Mr Balfour becomes First Lord of the Treasury, and Mr Chamberlain Secretary of State for the Colonies. It is announced that the following portfolios in the new Ministry have been alloted: — Lord Salisbury, Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Duke of Devonshire, Lord President of the Council. Mr Goschen, First Lord of th§ Admiralty. London, June 26. Altough Lord Salisbury was willing to Bin-render the Foreign Office to the Duke of Devonshire, the latter preferred to be President of the Council with the headship of the Consultative Council on Imperial Defence entrusted by the Executive with the carrying out of Army reforms. The dissolution is expected to take place in the second week in July. It is reported that the Liberals are unprovided with candidates for 170 seats. The Liberals have promised to afford Lord Salisbury reasonable assistance to pass the remainder of the Estimates. It is understood that Mr Gladstone questions the wisdom of Lord Eosebery's resignation.
