Ballance School Committee.

The usual monthly meeting ot the School Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs Cooper (chairman), Brown, Eaton, Heard, Robinson, McDavitt, and Tait. The Master's report was read, showing average attendance for quarter ending December 19th, 46, roll number 60, highest attendance 52. Accounts of 235, for removing logs from boys play ground, and 10s 6d for building wood-shed, were passed for payment. It was decided to write to the Education Board, pointing out the short notice given Miss Murphy to attend the Pupil Teachers' Examination held at Masterton, and requesting longer notice to be given in future. Notice only reached here by the mail on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and the Examination opened the following moring. By starting of at once Miss Murphy barely managed to catch the train at Eketahuna. It was decided to hold the annual picnic on Friday the Bth of March, and to get out subscription list to raise funds for picnic and prize fund. Mr Brown was appointed visiting member for the month and the meeting closed. •
