In his letter to the Railway Commissioners regarding the Te Aro railway extension, the Minister of Public Works made the following important statement :—“ Moreover, it is probable that ere long the Wel-lington-Manawatu Company’s Railway would become the property of the Government, and to the acquisition of this hue by the Government the Commissioners were, he believed, favourably disposed. When this was accomplished the increased traffic resulting therefrom would necessarily demand increased goods station accommodation.”
