Allen Joseph Burne John Martin I«oao Plimmer John Symons, It having become apparent that an exten* sion of the Company is necessary, in order to keep pace with the growing Colonial aud Inter-Colonial trades, the Directors of the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company (Limited), in now seeking the aid of the publio to bring about the achievement of this objeof, point with confidence to the success which has hitherto marked their operations e-a a guarantee to intending shareholders that the prospect of a good investment held out to them is a substantial and fair one. Unlike other Steam Companies now projected, the Company actually occupies the field with a fleet of steamers especially built for and adapted to the trade on the Coast of New Zealand, as well as the inter- colonial trade. They own the following vessels, viz : — Phcbbb 416 tons register Tabanaki 299 „ „ Weixingtox 262 „ „ Ladtbibd 285 „ „ Rangatiba 184 „ „ Manawati; 163 ,; „ These steamers are all in the best repair, and some of them equal in every respect to new ships, a sum of upwards of £40,000 having been laid out on tkem during the past six months. They represent the plantof the Company, together with a sailing collier (barque Anne and Jane), large hulk, freehold and leasehold premises in the best business situations in Wellington, engineer's and smith's workshop, together with large stocks of material necessary for the working of the steamers, &o, &o. It is now proposed to raise the capital of i the Company to £150,000, wifch power to in- I crease it further. Immediately the necessary sanction of the j present shareholders has been obtained in i general meeting, and there will be no diffi • cully ob the present step is taken at their re- i quest, the proposed plan of extension will be | definitely put before the publio. ■ The Directors of the Company are fully ativo to the importance of keeping pace with the rapidly developing trade of the Colony, not only so far aa the mere coastal traffic is concerned, but also with reference to the trade with the Australian Colonies, the South Sea Islands, and the growing Colony of New Caledonia, in all of which a large and profitable outlet may be found for the produce of the Colony.
