Sic, — As the Q-overnmenfc is about to erect some considerable amount of rooms . as permanent offices for the various departments, I would ofiVr a suggestion, through fcho medium of your paper, to the effect that the walls should be built 'of concrete; or stone and tnorlar. Anyone visiting I lie Ngahaurangu line of 1 road at the present time will see plenty cf hard blue etone well adapted for this purpose. I am aware tho principal reason against such a proposition ia the danger to be anticipated from earthquakes, but I submit the antioipalion is not borne out by the fact, as the bridge on tlto Terrace, erected over the Kumutoto stream, lias stood the test of the severest shocks, and, so far as my own experience sorveß me, the shocks have been leas severe for some time' past.
