THE SHIP DOUGLAS.

Afc eight o'clock yesterday moraing the agents of the Douglaa (Messrs Levin and Co) dispatched a boafc wifch fresh provision, wbich arrived at the quarantine ground about halfpast.ten. The vessel is lying on the northeast side of Soniea Island, and about a quarter of a mile from the wharf. On arrival it waa found that the Health and Immigration Officers had preceded them in Capt Holliday's .fcoat. Captain Wilson, of the Douglaa, and Dr Tuck, the Burgeon Superintendent of the skip, who were in one of the vessel' a boats, were being questioned as to the state of the passengers geuerally and the health of nil on board. We are glad to learn that the sickness is not so bad as was at first supposed. During the voyage there were some cases of small pox in a modified form, and also scarlatina amongst the children. Afc present there are a few signs of alight scarlatina, but all are convalescent and able to go on deck. The deaths were six, all infants under a year ; and the births were five. Nothing otherwise, that We* could learn, occurred to mar the voyage. The passengers expressed great satisfaction at the supply of - fresh provisions. Captain Wilson Appears to have conducted fche ship in s very creditable manner, and Dr Tuck has evidently carried out his instructions fco the letter. Had ifc been otherwise, and had fche Douglas been a smaller ship, ifc is hard to say ■What would have been the consequences; but ■We are informed tbat a more roomy, better -Ventilated, and finer passenger »hip never

entered ocr harbor. There had not been a singlo case of sickness amongst the crew, which is, perhaps, a significant fact- The Health and Immigration Officers, after examining the captain ar.d fche surgeon, fumigated Pilot Holmes, and allowed him 'to proceed to his home. Captain Wilson will probably succeed in landing the lasfc of the passengers to-day. This is a tedious job, on account of the bedding and clothing requiring fumigation, which occupies two hours to each fumigation. When the passengers have been landed, the fli tings will be sent on shore and the vesßel scrubbed and thoroughly fumigated, after which, it ia probable, she will be admitted to pratique.
