The New Zealand Steam Shipping Com* pany's last new boat waß the centre of attraction during a great portion of yesterday, while lying alongside the wharf. Her hull, fittings, and machinery were freely criticised, and there are in Wellington a great many persons accustomed to steamers and acute observers of their capacities and convenience. It is gratifying to learn that a very favorable verdict was pronounced on the little boat. Having some time ago published an account of her power and dimensions, it will be unnecessary to reprint the details. Sufficient to say that she is one of the best arranged little boats on the coast. Her carrying capacity is large for her size and draught of water ; her cabin accommodation is more liberal than could be expected, and her fittings are decidedly handsome. Every comfort and luxury to be obtained on the best steamers on tbe coast will be found on board this vessel. The Manawatu started on her maiden trip on the West Coast trade last evening, and showed what she can do in the way of speed while going out of harbor. We hope the enterprise of the company will meet with the reward it deserves. The steamer Rangalira, Captain Hepburn, reports leaving Poverty Bay shortly before noon on the sth, arriving in Napier at 9 same night ; sailed from Napier on the afternoon of Thursday, and arrived in Wellington harbor yesterday afternoon, after a twenty-four hours' run. The vessel experienced fine weather throughout. Thanks to the purser for files and favors. The Bchooner Aspasia arrived from the East Coast yesterday morning. . The Napier took her departure for Wanganui yesterday afternoon. The Schiehaliion cleared at the Customs yesterday, and sails for Lyttelton to-day if tbe wind be favorable. The chip Lennox Castle is now overdue, and the ship Electra may drop in- at any day. Both vessels are consigned to Messrs Turnbull and Co.
