THE NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY, Limited (Incorporated under the Joint Stock Companies Acts). CAPITAL, £250,000, in 25,000 SHARES of £10 EACH. Head Offices, Hereford street, Christchrrch, London Offices, India House, Alderman's Walk. Directors : J. L. Costßr (Chairman) George GouM (Deputy-Chairman) William Reeves, M.H.R. Hon J. T. Peacock R. H. Rhodes, M.H.R. John Anderson Reginald Cobb Bankers : The Bank of New Zealand Solicitors : Messrs Garj ick and Cowlishaw The objects of the Company are to provide increased facilities for the New Zealand shipping trade, by the building, purchasing, or chartering of first-class vessels Buitable for the trade of the colony. The whole of the original capital — £100,000 — was spefdily subscribed for and allotted in the provinces of Canterbury, Otago, Welling* ton, and other parts of the colony. The failure of the Agent-General to obtain reasonable terms in London for the conveyance to the colony of emigrants and cargo having enabled the Directors to conclude a eatisfactory contract with the Government in the colony for such service, it at once became necessary to largely increase the oapital of the Company, with the view of placing it in an undoubted position to perform the contract, and otherwise extend its operations. The Directors were strengthened in this view by the fact that the Otago Freight Association had already joined the Company, that a large number of the late Wellington Association had become shareholders with them, and that a strong probability existed (since substantially realised) that the New Zealand (Auckland) Freight Company would also amalgamate. At a meeting of the shareholders held at Christchurch on the 20th June, it was decided to inereasa the capital of the Company to £250,000, by the oreation of 15,000 new shares of £10 each, to be issued at par, with all the privileges belonging to the first issue, and to be allotted in the discretion of the Directors. Already, in anticipation of this announcement, applications for a very large number of new shares have been received, thus affording further substantial proof of. the confidence reposed by the public in the New Zealand Shipping Company. The success which has hitherto attended the efforts of the promoters to establish a colonial Shipping Company on a basis sufficiently wide and strong to enable them to successfully oppose and check the powerful monopoly of Shaw, Savill, and Co, justifies the Directors in appealing with confidence to the public for their support. The Directors would specially appeal to the wool and grain growers, and other producers, as well as to the mercantile community., whether importers or exporters, for their aid towards an undertaking which must conduce largely, both, directly and indirectly, to their benefit. It is not the intention of the Directors to call up more than 50a a share— of this amount 10s will be payable on application, and the remainder at intervals of not less than three months, in calls of 10s each Applications for Bhares of the new issue will, pending the establishment of agencies of the Shipping Company at various points in the colony, be received up to 15th August next, at the several offices of the Bank of New Zealand, where forms ef application can be obtained ; or, at the Head Offices of the Company, Hereford street, Christohurch, By order of the Board Directors, .
