THE EFFETE "STANDARD."
TO THE EDITOR, OP THE INDEPENDENT,
Sir, — As few people in this district look at the above-named paper save to read the advertisements, I may as well inform your readers that the paragraph in a former issue alluding to the above periodical has roused the ire of of him who sits in its editorial chair. The paragraph in question is a faithful reflex of public opinion from Masterton to Castle Point, and I doubt not from Masterton to the mouth of the Lake in the other direction. Neither the editor nor the " sub " is responsible for the statements contained in that paragraph. lam the responsible party, and am prepared to prove the truth of every statement in it.
It would be well for the " Standard " to set its house in order, as I much fear fear its days are numbered. — I am, &c, Mewe Mene Tekel Upharsin. Masterton, June 10th, 1873.
