WRITTEN TENDERS will be received at this office up to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 14th May, 1873, for Ihe construction of No 1 contract of the above railway, being about 22 (twenty-two) miles. They must be addressed to the Hon the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside " Tender for No 1 Contract, Wiuton Railway." The Architect, whose design shall be approved by the Board, will have the superintendence of the buildiug while being erected, and will receive the usual commission. Premiums of Fifty Pounds and Twentyfive Pounds will be paid to the respective Architects whose designs may be considered by the Board to rank first and second. Designs, with cipher or motto affixed, and accompanied by a, sealed letter enclosing Architect's name and address, should be delivered at the office of the Board of Education, Christchurch, before 3 o'clock on MONDAY, 2nd June, 1873. Tenders are invited for the purchase of the whole or any portion of Two 'Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds New Zealand Government Debentures, issued under the Acts of the Legislature of the Colony, entitled "The Immigration and Public Works Loan Act, 1870," and " The Defence and Other Purposes Loan Act, 1870," subject to the under-mentioned conditions : — 1. The Debentures will be payable to Bearer, and will be issued in sums of aot less than One Hundred Pounds each. 2. The Debentures, which are secured on the Consolidated Revenue of the Colony, will bear interest at the rate of 4 per cent per annum, payable halfyearly, on the 15th day of April and the 15th day of October in each year, at the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington, Napier, Nelson, Blenheim, Christchurch, Greymoutb Hokitika, Dunedin, or Invercargill. 3. The principal sum will be payable on the 3.5 th day of April, 1913, at the Treasury at Wellington, or at any branch of the Bank of New Zealand, in Nsw Zealand, at the option of the holder, six months' notice being required, previous to muturity, of the place at which payment will be required. 4. Tenders will be opened at the Treasury at Wellington at noon on Friday, the ninth day of May next, in the presence of such of the tenderers bb desire to be present — the minimum price under seal being first placed on the table. In the event of equal tenders being received for a sum in excess of the issue, a pro rata distribution ■will be made. 5. The amount tendered for must be paid at the Treasury at Wellington, as under : — 5 per cent accompanying application;* the balance on or before the 16th May, 1873. Or, at the option of the purchasers : — 6 per cent on application. 20 per cent in one month, *\ 25 per cent in two months, f with accrued 25 per cent in three months, I interest. 25 per cent in four mouths, ) * Purchasers electing to pay balance within a week will be entitled to interest from the 15th day of April. On payment of the final instalment, debentures signed by the Agents op^ointed under the respective Acts, will be delivered to pur chasers or their nominees. Half per cent brokerage will be allowed to brokers through whose applications sales are effected. Applications by telegraph, received not later than 10 o'clock on the 14th May, will be accepted, provided they are accompanied by a telegram from the Manager of any Branoh or Agency of. the Bank of New Zealand, notifying that the necessary deposit has been paid into the Bank of Now Zealand, to the credit ■ of a Loan Deposit Account.
