CRICKET

The weather was anything but favorable for cricket on Saturday afternoon, but despite that tho two warlike elevens met on the new cricket ground. The usual preliminaries having been gone through, the Artillery sent the Veterans to the wickets, and after having occupied that position for nearly two hours, they retired with a score to their credit of seventy - nine runs. The Artillery then fell in at the wickets ; the Veterans were then put out in skirmishing order, according to the ruleß of cricket laid down by the most able genorals of that manly game, and after advancing and retiring by word of command from the respective umpires, Mo93rs Bromloy and Churchill who, by tho way, received the united and cordial thanks of tho two teams for their kindness in coming forward in such weather) until sunset, and tho last wicket having fallen, the Artillery retired with a score of thirty- fivo, leaving the Veterans victors by forty -four vuns. The Veterans then gave three cheers for the Artillery, the latter returning the compliment. Tho captains then arranged for a return match on an early date, and so ended a peaceful game in stormy weather. Tho following is tho score : — VETERANS. W. Brewer, run out ... 6 T.
