Interesting Rklics. — A gentleman at Clyde has become possessor of a few Maori relics, recently found in a hole ov cavern in a gully called Indian Gully, which lies on the west bank of tho Clutha, about half way between Clyde and Cromwell. These consist of a mat of about fivo feet in width, but of which only two feet of the length have been made, the ends of the unplaited flax still hanging fringo like, as if tho Maori who wns making it had to leave it unfinished ; a quantity of dressed fl ix in honks, ready for use, and coloured white, red, and black ; a short hank of twine made from flax ; and a few chert stones. Also, a tremendous eel-pot, made of narrowbands of flax. These aro all, considering the timo they have lain — probably 50 or 60 years — ■ in a fair state of preservation. On tho white flax, small pieces of the j'ellow skin left by caveleas dressing, can bo easily seen hero and there. Something like tho dye which has been used is observed covering the floor of the cavern. It is tho intention of tho possessor of these relics to visit tho spot and examine it carefuliy. Probably the Maoris were in hasto to take to this hole, scared by tho approach of tho North Island natives who made a raid on this Island some half century ago.
