The s.s. ■Rangatira left Wanganui on Thursday at 3 p.m., for Taranaki and Munukau with a full

cargo and a large number of passengers for the latter port. Tho Government p.s. Sturfc left Wellington on Thursday afternoon for Napier, for the purpose of bringing round to Patea tho division of Constabulary stationed there under Major Fraser's command.

Captain Francis, recently commander of tho ill-fated s.s. Taranaki, has gone to tho Thames by the s.s. Phoebe, which sailed on Wednesday. Several tenders have been received by the N.Z.S.N. Company for the raising of the sunken Taranaki.

Tho s.s. Go-a-head, Captain Mundle, which left here on the lßt inst., for Auckland, arrived on Saturday, the sth inst., afc 6 p.m., bringing a a general cargo and soveral passengers. She left hore on the Ist inst., at 8.30 n.m., and experienced a heavy gale from S.S.W. with tremendous cross seas for the first two days. When off the Kidnappors a heavy sea struck tho ship, bursting in tho skylights, and filling the cabiu and decks with water. During the latter part; of the passage she had fine weather. An accident of an unusual character occurred yesterday afternoon, outside the Custom House wharf. Tho fore-and-aft-schooner Moorca, Capt. Waterman, loaded with about eighty tons of iirewoood, hauled alongside the cutter Clyde, which was lying on the east side of tho wharf loaded with stores, consisting of tea, sugar, flour, &c, for Matakana. The Clyde was waiting for some cattle which were to have been taken on board this morning. The Moorea was made fast alongside the Clyde between 10 and 11 o'clock yesterday morning, and all hands and the cook on board either ashore or hard and fast asleep, when the tide fell. At any rate it so happened ■ that the schooner canted over the wrong way, and came right on top of tho little cutter, crushing her to pieces. Of course the cargo of the Clyde was destroyed, and her hull so much damaged as to oe incapable of repair. What the | object of the schooner was in hauling alongside the Clyde on Sunday morning, without permission, is not apparent, since there was abundance of room for her betweon the Clyde and the Midge. The Clyde is owned by her master, J. Haspar, who thus loses almost everything, tho Clyde being uninsured. An enquiry is to be held to-day into the circumstances of the wreck of the Clyde, and Captains Casey and Clayton, with other gentlemen, will form the board of investigation us to the causes of the loss. — New Zeabind Herald.
