TAURANGA.- THE TIDAL WAVE.

On Saturday, 15th ult, in tho afternoon, a r.-markable phenomenon was witnessed by the inhabitants of Maketu. It being high water at the time, the sea suddenly and rapidly receded until the river was below low water mark, when it as suddenly flowed again ; this occurred at intervals until the evening. No motion of the earth was perceptible, but a rock weighing several tons, situate near the mouth of the river, turned completely over, doubtless from the force of the water.
