Lyttelton, August 24. Arrived — American Lloyds, barque, from Dunedin. Pout Chalmers, August 24. Arrived — Salamander, 8.8., from London. Tho s.B. Storm Bird left; yesterday afternoon for Wanganui. She will not proceed further North this trip, but will return direct \o {his port. Tho s.s. Wanganui, Captain Linklater, sailed from Wanganui for tho Munukau on the 19th instant. The 8.8. Egmont, Captain J. V. Hall, arrived in harbor at 6.30 p.m. yesterday. She left Sydney on tho 12th instant at noon ; experienced strong S. and S.E. gales for tho first part of the passage, and tho latter part moderate and fine weather ; arrived at Hokitika on the 19th at 5 a.m., but finding the bar impracticable proceeded to the Grey ; landed passengers and cargo and returned same day to Hokitika at 9 a.m. ; on the 20th landed passengers and cargo, but the sen having risen rapidly the tender could not get over the bar again ; at 4 p.m. received orders to proceed on to Nelson ; experienced strong winds and thick weather throughout ; arrived off the Boulder Bank at 8 a.m. on the 22nd ; at 10 a.m. proceeded into the harbor and discharged eur^o, &c ; left | Nelson at 11 a.m. on the 23rd for Picton, and arrived at 10 30 p.m. ; leaving a<jain nt 11 30 a.m. on tho 24th, and arrived hero as above. Experienced very heavy weather in crossing the Straits.
