Compensation. — Last Saturday week, says the Wanganui Merald, tbo natives on the river as far as Pipiriki, were paid by Mr Booth the sum* of -£2500, as compensation for claims they may havo to blocks of land between Kai Iwi and Taranaki. £1200 Avas senfc up tbe river, £1000 at Putiki and Aramoho, and £500 to Wangaehu and Turakina ; the bulk of which has not been yet spent, but will doubtless in timo find its way into the pockets of our tradesmen in the town and district.
