Small sales of provisions and dried fruits have also been made at maintained rates. Owing to the announced auction sales, private transactions in teas and sugars have becm extremely light. Teas, ex Eubicon, will not be offered till tho 22nd. Sugars, ex Wild Wave, wero to-day offered at Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn and Co's auction rooms ; but little disposition to buy wns manifested, and prices exhibited a reduction upon previous sales. Two or three lines wore sold intact, but of most of tho sample? only a small proportion were placed, balances being reserved. Canterbury. — The following is extracted from tho Lyliellon Times' commercial article of November 16 : —
The various auction sales daring tho weekhavo been remarkably well attended, and in most cases the prices realised have been such as to justify us in reporting a further improvement, both as regards demand and prices, in most branches of tho stock market. The demand for cattle, both fat and store, is active; the former are worth, for prime beef, from 50s to 555, with an upward tendency. Stores, according to quality and age, and for mixed mobs, may bo quoted at from £6 to £10 10. Milch cows, except in tho case of really first-class and well-known animals, are in little or no demand. Young stock are much enquired for. In sheep there are no transactions of any importance to note. Fat wethers are- worth from 3d to 4d shorn. There is a good demand for store wethers. Evres, unless roally good sound Bheep, aro almost impossible of sale. There is still a good and increasing demand for stations, lightly stocked.
