ARRIVAL OF THE MATAURA.

The. s.s. Mataura, from Sydney, for Panama, arrived at two o'clock yesterday afternoon. She left Sydney on the Ist September. We Buoimarise the following intelligence from our files to the 31sfc ult. : — The Government of New South Wales have given notice of their intention to ask the assembly to go into committee for the purpose of passing a resolution that it is expedient to raise a loan of three millions sterling for railway purposes. The loans already authorised are nearly exhausted, and it is certain that if railways are to be continued so as to reach the groat producing interior of the country, fund 3 must be raised without delay, The present Governor, of the colony, Sir John Young, will not take his departure for Europe until after the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh may be expected in Sydney about the end of October. Money has been cheerfully voted to defray expenses, and entertainments of all kinds are being devised in his honour. So far as New South Wales is concerned, the final step is nearly completed for the validation of the agreement come to at the late Intercolonial Postal Conference. The bill for that purpose has passed through committee in the Assembly and would probably become law a few days after the Mataura left.
