The Government steamer St Kilda, Capt Fox, returned from Napier, whether she had been despatched with the Hawke's Bay portion of the mail brought by the Mataura, ab 6 o'clock on Sunday evening, having left Napier about 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Sudden Dkat_i. — In May last, aa a seaman of H.M.S. Bellerophon, now ut Portland, was engaged on tho main-royal-yard of tho ship ho foil into 'the soa. The descent was witnessed by Lieutenant Thomas James, wbo was "on deck at the time, and it had such an effect upon him that an affection of tho heart developed itself in a severe form, and he expired about ton minutes aftorwards. Deceased had been in a delicate stato of health for somo time past. Tho seaman was picked up uninjured.
